Utility Works Uwajima is a global learning community where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to share knowledge, creativity, and sustainable practices. Participants learn through hands-on experiences—from knot-tying with an 85-year-old fisherman to tech lessons with a 7-year-old prodigy, cooking with international chefs, designing eco-friendly furniture and tableware with artisans, and experimenting with music and permaculture. Education extends beyond traditional subjects, using real-world activities to teach science, history, and math. With no official language, communication thrives through shared experiences, fostering creativity, global understanding, and a culture of making.
Throught hearing their mission, we worked to develop playful illustrations to help convey their ideas to Uwajima City hall
東京でストア兼コミュニティを立ち上げ、さらにシアトルにも2つ目の拠点を設けたUtility Worksは、伝統的な学問に代わる教育のかたちを模索し、教育のあり方を再考することを目的として、日本で新たな学校を設立する構想を進めました。
Utility Works Uwajimaは、年齢や背景を問わず、世界中の人々が集まり、知識・創造性・持続可能な実践を共有するグローバルな学びのコミュニティです。参加者は、85歳の漁師によるロープ結びの体験から、7歳の天才少年によるテクノロジーの授業、国際的なシェフとの料理、職人と共に制作するエコ家具や食器のデザイン、音楽やパーマカルチャーの実験まで、実践的な学びを通じて成長します。教育は従来の教科を超え、現実世界の活動を通して科学・歴史・数学を学ぶことを重視しています。公式な共通言語はなく、体験を共有することで自然なコミュニケーションが生まれ、創造性・国際理解・「つくる文化」を育みます。
私たちは、彼らの理念を伺い、宇和島市役所にその想いを伝えるための、遊び心あふれるイラストレーションを制作しました。
